CSA week 2 :)

This is our CSA bag from THIS week! It is so fresh and has lots of great, local items! We did get one green tomato this week (anyone for fried green tomatoes??). We also got a beautiful bundle of rainbow chard and big head of romaine lettuce. The sweet potatoes are always my favorite! I like to cube them up and sautee them in a little butter. They taste like candy :) One of our CSAers says that they sautee theirs in coconut oil and put a little coconut butter on them. THAT sounds awesome too! Let us know what you are doing with your local sweet potatoes!
We got a bunch of other great things too, like cabbage, cucumbers, mixed summer squash, red tomatoes, garlic, freshly roasted green chilis and onions.
If you want to join us on this fun summer produce journey in June, July and/or August...let me know!

CSA bag and a GREAT recipe!!!

Our 1st CSA bag was sooo good! The pics to the right of the screen here show what we got. PLUS, some of us were able to get some fresh strawberries as well!
We get 8-10 "items" each week, but they threw in some parsley to make an 11th item this past week. We were able to have these fresh, local, pesticide free (better than organic) items...
1)Mixed summer squash
2)butternut squash
3)romaine lettuce
4)kale
5)golden delicious apples
6)red potatoes
7)sweet onions
8)freshly roasted (still warm on delivery) green chilis
9)baby carrots
10)bag of dry pinto beans
11) parsley
Summer is a GREAT time for squash here in AZ and one of our CSAer's shared this incredible recipe with us! The pics of her dish are too the right as well. Just look at how beautiful this dish is.
Eating local and all natural is also delicious!! :)

Vegetable Tian (thinly sliced veggies topped with cheese and then roasted)...

Ingredients:

1 Tbsp. olive oil
1 medium yellow onion
1 tsp. minced garlic
1 medium zucchini
1 medium yellow squash (We replaced this with the Chayote Squash)
1 medium potato
1 medium tomato (We left this out)
1 tsp. dried thyme
to taste salt & pepper
1 cup shredded Italian cheese

Directions:

STEP 1: Preheat the oven to 180 (400 degrees f) Finely dice the onion and mince the garlic. Sauté both in a skillet with olive oil until softened (about five minutes).

STEP 2: While the onion and garlic are sautéing, thinly slice the rest of the vegetables.

STEP 3: Spray the inside of an 8x8 square or round baking dish with non-stick spray. Spread the softened onion and garlic in the bottom of the dish. Place the thinly sliced vegetables in the baking dish vertically, in an alternating pattern. Sprinkle generously with salt, pepper, and thyme.

STEP 4: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil, top with cheese and bake for another 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is golden brown

*Note: we only cooked ours for the first 30 minutes. It was pretty darn good. :)

BILTMORE HERE WE COME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so excited to announce that we will be starting a "Foodie Market" at Biltmore's new "Union" shops on November 11th!!!
We will be there with great local produce and incredible local food vendors....
every 2nd and 4th Sunday from 12-4.

We have so many incredible vendors coming! PLUS, our market is being sponsored by "Porter Barn Wood"! The greatest re-claimed and old wood supplier in AZ, I might ad! They supplied the wood for the new shops and have great things that you can get your hands on as well!!! (www.porterbarnwood.com)

The actual new shops ("Union @ Biltmore Fashion Park") opens Thursday November 8th at 6 o'clock for their grand opening event. They have the neatest concept and ideas in this place. Reclaimed wood covers the walls and the whole set up is like something you would find in New York.
You have GOT to check this place out.
PLUS...Momma's Organic Market will be there Sunday 11/11 and every 2nd and 4th Sunday through April so come see us! :) I cannot wait to open this market! SEE YOU THERE!!!!!!!!!

Market Season is HERE!!!

Our farmer's market in Peoria is now EVERY Saturday from now until April!!
(9a-2p at Park West just west of the 101 on Northern) 9744 W Northern Ave, Peoria, 85345)

I love that we will be able to get our fresh produce and other groceries from local vendors each week! It's been a long time coming! We have wanted to be every weekend and this year it finally worked out. We are starting out the season with 3 produce vendors (and Tonopah Rob will be joining us sometime in mid to late October).
Our 3 INCREDIBLE produce vendors at the market are....
Fresh and Local TJ farms, Horny Toad Farms and Hot House Naturals!

We are so lucky to have them and looking forward to each week that they can bring out their wonderful, PESTICIDE FREE, better than organic, local produce!
We need your help in spreading the word! People need to know that they can find us every week! We have found that signage and advertising is great...but it's YOU who gets the most people to come shop in the community at the market. Word of mouth is the best way of advertising! Without the support of this wonderful community...farmer's markets and local businesses wouldn't make it. It is because of you that we are here and we are so thankful that you let us bring a market to Peoria and other areas.
THANK YOU for your support and for your desire to shop fresh and local! I hope to be seeing you tomorrow and don't forget to stop by the info booth and say hello!!
